About
B!ttersweet
For me, this project wasn’t just a project—it was an extension of myself. As a whole, 2025 can be summed up in one word: b!ttersweet. From graduating, to moving to New York, meeting new people, and saying goodbye to the ones I loved most, it was a very difficult year for me. Throughout this time, I experienced an abundance of emotions and feelings, which led me down more creative paths.
I wanted to express this through a series of self-portraits, symbolizing the different emotions and feelings I experienced throughout the year, while keeping my creativity alive and vocal. B!ttersweet is not just an accumulation of photos from the past year; it is a collection of moments. Moments where I can look back at a photograph and remember how I was feeling at that time and what prompted me to shoot the way I did.
Throughout the project, I incorporated numerous ties—both literally and symbolically—representing the act of tying the year together and creating a constant motif throughout the self-portraits. The tie is also symbolized by the exclamation point in the title, further emphasizing this idea. I am immensely proud of this project, and I am also proud of myself for pushing outside my comfort zone, getting in front of the camera more than I usually do, and leading with my mind and heart rather than what I think is simply “best.”
2025 was a big year for me, and I am excited to see where I continue to grow and advance with new projects and new beginnings. This is B!ttersweet
